Horticulturally speaking, isn't it landscaping that makes the difference between renting and owning? That's why they call it "putting down roots."  And landscaping can be done responsibly or recklessly.

Buckthorn!  Introduced from Europe in the 30's, buckthorn is now listed as a noxious weed.  It is illegal to plant. And  folks are asked to help in it's eradication.  Buckthorn spreads prolifically and is clearly a threat to the woodlands of America.  It is a hearty plant that birds spread thru diarrhea-inducing seed/fruit pods. Here is a sequence of photos where we help a homeowner convert from noxious buckthorn to a native hedge of various evergreens. Looks like their days of running thru the sprinkler naked are on hold.
