- Buckthorn! Introduced from Europe in the 30's, buckthorn is now
listed as a noxious weed. It is illegal to plant. And folks are
asked to help in it's eradication. Buckthorn spreads prolifically and
is clearly a threat to the woodlands of America. It is a hearty plant
that birds spread thru diarrhea-inducing seed/fruit pods. Here is a sequence
of photos where we help a homeowner convert from noxious buckthorn to a
native hedge of various evergreens. Looks like their days of running thru
the sprinkler naked are on hold.
